Valentina Parlato was born in Palermo, Italy in December 1984. In her twenties she attended a BA In contemporary dance at Accademia Nazionale di Danza, Rome, afterward she has been studying improvisation, composition, voice and physical theatre in Berlin and Amsterdam. From 2010 to 2012 she has been busy with PEPCC_ Forum Dança, a 2 years full-time course in dance research, performance art, and choreographic creation, in Lisbon, Portugal.
In May 2012 Valentina starts collaborating with Ola Osowicz with whom she creates H.A.L.F. (Host Any Living Flash) , a structure to perform and research the way anti-speciesism is thought and perceived by living beings.
V. is now based in Palermo, Sicily, a place to deeply freak out, where she is promoting artistic exchange between what is inside the Island and the Outside world, in order to achieve this goal she created Les Enfants Terribles a European network through which international choreographers and performance artists get in touch and work with their Sicilian colleagues. On the meanwhile, she is active mostly in Europe both as performer and choreographer.
In her works, she explores the political potential of the body by developing practices or performative training so to make the body more sensitive, more creative and then more capable to act as a socially subversive element. She is interested in exploring non-normative roles and taboo, and she often produces sex-centric material that plays with power dynamics and gender fluidity with a special focus on making visible the unconscious embodiment of male gaze.
From 2014 to 2015 she works with Dimora Oz, a permanent laboratory of visual, performance and multimedia art operating in the historic center of Palermo.
In 2016, together with Lucia di Pietro, she founds SUDO, a structure for creation and production of choreography and Performance art based in Palermo.
In 2017 she gives birth to Marlene.
